The Parish Council met this past week and had a special guest, Mike Savino, to walk us through the impact of media in the parish. The council was happy to hear that there are so many parishioners who attend the live streams weekly Masses. The Parish as a whole is looking forward to welcoming more and more fellow community members back to a live mass when they feel comfortable to do so. The Council discussed the upcoming Easter schedule- please watch the bulletin and the parish website for information on in person and live streaming Mass opportunities! As always, the Council wishes everyone a safe and happy spring. The warm weather is right around the corner! Elyse Gemme, Pastoral Council Secretary
The St. George Church Pastoral Council works together to:
provide guidance on fulfilling the Parish Mission Statement
collaborate on issues of parish pastoral planning, serving as a sounding board and focusing on the big picture of parish life
serve as a liaison to other ministries within the parish to foster collaboration, provide support, and strengthen relationships
encourage participation of all parishioners in the sharing of time, talent and treasure
The Finance Council is the only parish group required by Canon Law. The revised Code of Cannon Law 537 of 1983 has established that each parish is to have a “Finance Council” and that this council is to aid the pastor in the administration of “parish goods” in accordance with Canon Law 532.
St. George’s Finance Committee is made up of parishioners designated by the pastor. Per Canon Law, there must be a minimum of three parishioners on the council. This number can be increased by the pastor based on the needs of the parish. The pastor, by nature of his position, is also a voting member of the council. The following are some major responsibilities of the Finance Committee:
Develops the annual budget and recommends it to the pastor.
Reviews all financial transactions on at least a monthly basis.
Reports back to the Parish the state of the Parish Finances on a quarterly basis.
Along with the pastor, approves and submits an annual financial report to the diocese.
Approves all capital projects and insures those over $10,000 are pre-approved by the diocese.
Offers counsel and monitors activity of all parish financial assets.
Ensures that all parish financial activities are conducted in accordance with sound financial practice according to the training guidelines of the diocese.
Offers counsel and assists the pastor in all parish fundraising activities.
Reviews job descriptions and compensation for all parish employees.
The primary goal of the members of the Saint George Finance Council is to be responsible stewards of our parish resources and provide fiscal transparency to our parishioners.
At each exit of the church you will find this interesting booklet that will help us step more deeply into the celebration of Mass.
It says, in part, “The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to a full, conscious and active participation in liturgical celebrations… Such participation by the Christian people as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people” is their right and duty by reason of their baptism.
